Talk about a rough week!
We spent 6 nights and 7 days (but who’s counting?) in a hotel due to a sewer back up in our house. Meal planning was non-existent and eating was definitely a challenge. I was managing my Smart Points on a meal-by-meal basis. I was so worried that I was going to gain weight because it was so hard to be precise as I was eating every meal out. But, I was vigilant and drank excessive amounts of water to help compensate too. I knew it would be a great story to share at my WW meeting when we talked about challenges in the week. I knew I’d only share it if I was successful.
To pick up where I left off in my inaugural post, I want to share part of my mom’s response with you. (Spoiler Alert: I was right, she is ALWAYS in my corner.)
Dear Robin,
First of all, I am glad you turned to me. Your Mom will always be in your corner to support you in whatever you do.
I know we will do everything we can to ensure your weight loss journey does not interfere with our relationship. That is a very important part of our lives and we would both be miserable if we let that happen. I am here for you in any way you want me to be. Your guidelines! I know you said you are not sure how this will work, but I think it will evolve as you have the need/desire to question, vent, share, etc. I am always here to LISTEN to you and respond when you want me to. I will take my lead from you. This is about YOU and reaching your goal!
You said you are scared of failure, and I understand that, yet you sound so very committed to this journey that I feel you WILL be successful. I will be with you along the way… proud of each step you take and grateful to be walking along side of you.
Love,
Mom
Today as I waited for my turn to step on the scale, I kept looking at last week’s weight and hoping, praying that at the very least I held steady, due to the circumstances of the week. But secretly, I was hoping for a 1-2 pound loss. My vigilance paid off big time at the scale. I lost 4.8 pounds this week, for a total of 18.4 – which earned me my 5% award! I’ve lost 5% of my body weight already! I can’t believe it. Pictured above is my 4-week key chain with my 5% charm. I’m keeping it with me always so I can remind myself of the milestones I’ve already achieved.
When I got in the car to go home, my first call was to my mom. I got her voice mail. “Hi Mom, It’s me. Please call me back when you have a chance. I have great news to share!” I’ve overcome my concern about not discussing the specifics with Mom. She was right about how it evolved and it took no time at all. I am so fortunate to have my mom by my side.
When embarking on a journey like this, it’s critically important to surround yourself with people who support you. I was amazed and overwhelmed by the number of people who commented on my inaugural post and showed their support for my journey. Thanks to all of you. It’s your kind and thoughtful words that will help keep me focused as I continue moving forward.
What challenge did you face head on this past week and how did it turn out?

Wow! That is a tough week! And trying to eat out using SmartPoints is a bigger challenge! I know you will be successful at all of this. You have a great attitude!

Thanks on both fronts. At least we are back in the house and it smells normal! Not all of the repair work has been done. but I can survive as long as we can be in the house.

How wonderful to have such a warm and supportive letter from your mother – and really well done for achieving your 5% milestone. It’s great to see a return on the efforts of those early weeks, as they are often the hardest.
It’s easy to forget, when you have a large amount of weight to lose, that there are many, many milestones along the way, and each one can boost your morale and encourage you to ‘keep the faith’, along the way. It’s worth having a few more lined up, to check-off over the coming weeks – all proof of progress.

Julie, I’m very fortunate. My Mom and Dad are terrific and so supportive of everything I do. Your comments are right on! I agree with you. Next goal is 20lbs, which could happen next week! Wishing you a happy and healthy new year!
